Windows Vista Has Arrived!

The end of January saw the much anticipated release of Microsoft's latest version of Windows: Vista.  This generation of Windows is touted to be the most stable yet.  While the jury is still out on the long-term performance of this OS, the early reports appear favorable.

For business users, there are two versions of Vista:  Business and Enterprise

Windows Vista Business

Windows Vista Busniness Edition

Microsoft claims that Vista Business is the first version of Windows that is designed with a focus on small business users.  Vista Business has increased security and scalability, while at the same time is easier to use than previous versions.  It also sports some dazzling visual effects like the Aero Glass graphics.

For those looking to upgrade, take note:  This OS will not run on any old computer.  Microsoft is recommending a minimum of 1GB of system memory and at least 128MB of graphics memory.  A minimum processor speed of 1GHz is also required.  For many business users with older equipment, the move to Vista may involve upgrading workstation hardware such as memory and graphics adaptors.  In some situations, given the age of the equipment and the relative cost to update individual components, it may be more cost effective to replace the entire workstation.

Windows Vista Enterprise

Windows Vista Enterprise Edition

Windows Vista Enterprise is designed for corporate networks with large national or global IT infrastructures.  Some of the key advantages to Vista Enterprise include improved security, enhanced data protection and greater application compatibilty.
